T O P 5
Reda Mebtouche - FRA - 22 – MK Team: - Based in Paris France, Reda is one of the most dominant competitors in Europe, after winning the European Championships and Pan Ams at blue belt, he’s taken to purple immediately, winning multiple IBJJF and UAEJJF opens, recently he put on a stand out performance at the Europeans 2018, winning the medium heavy division and placing third in the open weight. Then going on to place second at the IBJJF Pan Ams. Known for his crushing pressure passing, relentless pace and unbelievable athleticism, watch out for him at this year’s World Championships!
Margot Ciccarelli - ITA - 24 - Unity BJJ: - Probably the most the most decorated athlete on this list. Along with her numerous gold medals at IBJJF Opens, Margot is a double European and Asian Open champion, along with placing second at the World Nogi 2017 and Pan Ams. Watch for her advanced guard and berimbolo game, a sure bet to be a World Champion one day!
Richard Bukovcsan – ROM / IRE - 20 – ECJJA: - Purple belt under one of the premier black belts in Ireland and Europe, Darragh O’conaill, Richy is a Europeans medallist at blue belt and multiple IBJJF Gold medalist. After being side-lined with an ACL injury for almost a year, he came back stronger and took double gold in his first competition back, then a week later took Gold (No Gi) and bronze (Gi) at the UAEJJF Spanish National Pro. The Kingz Europe sponsored athlete is sure to make some noise in the purple belt division at the Major tournaments during his time at purple belt.
Ellis Younger - GBR - 22 – ECJJA: - Based in Durham England, Progress/Roll Supreme sponsored athlete Ellis is a multiple British open champion along with many IBJJF and UAEJJF golds to his name, including a standout performance winning the 2018 No Gi European Championships at Lightweight. What makes his story even more interesting is Ellis developed his own jiu jitsu and academy originally with no oversight. Building his academy up from scratch as a blue belt, it’s slowly become one of the top Academies in the north east, and with the recent affiliation to ECJJA expect massive things from Ellis!
Taylor Pearman - GBR - 22 - ZR Team: The only World Champion purple belt on this list, Taylor won the 2017 IBJJF World Nogi Championships in the middleweight division. The Tatami Fightwear sponsored athlete followed that on with a bronze medal at the 2018 IBJJF European Championships, hitting a leg in triangle on one of the favourites to win the division Roberto Jimenez. His submission-oriented style is always exciting, it doesn’t matter if he’s down on points he’s always dangerous
