This Past weekend saw another exciting event from Grapplefest, with two championship matches and an elimination match taking place. We had front row tickets to the event and are salivating over potential match ups in future Grapplefest events along with their much anticipated May 23rd show in association with Third Coast Grappling headlined by Gordon Ryan and Kyle Boehm. After the results of Grapplefest 8, we brainstormed some potential match ups we wouldn't mind seeing !
Dante Leon vs Lachlan Giles for the 80kg Belt
Dante Leon was involved in a high paced match up with the up and coming Tye Ruotolo where his experience as a world class grappler showed being too big for the 17 year old Tye along with cleaner back takes and take downs. After this elimination bout, we are extremely hyped for the future match up with the big game hunter, ADCC absolute bronze medalist and current Grapplefest Champion Lachlan Giles. It will be a huge clash of styles with Lachlan primarily a guard player looking to catch a leg, and Dante looking dominate from top.
Women's Title match
One of the match ups missing on Grapplefest was a world class Women's match up. In the UK and Europe there are no shortage of world class Female athletes, with Kingz Europe's Ffion Davies being an obvious candidate, already being a Grapplefest superfight winner.
Kade vs Nicky Ryan/Kennedy Maciel.
Kade Ruotolo won the Grapplefest 60kg title in emphatic fashion defeating Ashley Williams. He pushed the pace aggressively attacking with passes and submissions, including some spectacular flying D'arce's. We'd love to see him against other athletes looking to put on a show and aggressively hunt submissions. With his brother on the next card, we'd love to see Nicky Ryan challenge for the u70kg title or the son of the legendary Cobrinha, Kennedy Maciel. Both offer totally different challenges to Kade, with Nicky known for his leg attacks, while Kennedy is an all rounder who has the gas tank to match Kades pace, and is an ADCC Silver medalist and World NoGi Champion.
Jon Thor Blank vs Craig Jones.
While both champions a different weight classes, Bearfoot Athlete Craig Jones has already proven to have the ability to become a 'Champ Champ', winning two weight classes at Polaris Professional. Both submitted Adam Wardzinski to win their titles. Craig Jones defeated Jon Blank at ADCC via Rear Naked choke and Jon Blank would be looking to get that win back. With both having submission orientated styles this would definitely be an exciting match either at u100kg or u90kg !
Santeri Lilius vs Jack Grant.
After watching both their performances at Grapplefest this match up would be fireworks. Jack Grant attacks with reckless abandonment, while Scramble Athlete Santeri is very controlled but aggressive in his attacks. Both were super impressive at Grapplefest 8 with Jack winning swiftly via a flying armbar, while Santeri took longer to defeat a highly experienced Stuart Cooper, displaying some solid takedowns and guard passing before getting the choke.
