We could see a true clash of the Legendary champion versus the up and coming prospect, as we might see Thalison Soares, 2019 Brown belt world champion, who was been dominating the coloured belts in the same vein as the legendary Bruno Malfacine has at black belt. Could we be witnessing the changing of the guard, or will Malfacine prove too much too soon ? However we do have dark horses such as Atos’s Cleber de Sousa Fernandes and Brasa CTA’s Tomoyuki Hashimoto both champions on the grandslam stage.
FME Pick – Bruno Malfacine
Its hard to see past multiple world champion Mikey Musumeci as he has proved unbeatable at black belt, however Cicero Costha has their new breed of competitors ready to challenge in Francisco Jonas Andrade and Kingz athlete Diego Batista. Cicero Costhas veteran Hiago George will be looking to add to his 3 European titles. So Musumeci has his work cut out for him.
FME Pick – Mikey Musumeci.
Featherweight is one of the deepest divisions with sharks such as Gianni Grippo, Isaac Doederlein, world NoGi Champion Alessandro Pinto and Zr Teams Guilherme De Rocha and Joao Gabriel Batista de Sousa. This division is definitely a hard one to call with multiple Grand Slam Champions. Any of those named above could take the gold on the day. For us we will choose the Joao Gabriel Batista de Sousa !
FME Picks – Joao Gabriel Batista de Sousa
Lightweight sees another clash of generations with the new black belts like Kingz Athlete Jonnatas Gracie, Carlson Gracie’s Guthierry Barbosa and Cicero Costhas load of challengers Italo Moura, Natan Chueng Freitas and Pedro Veras coming up against veterans such as Luan Carvalho and former world medalist Vitor Henrique Silva Oliveira. Look out for European Dark horses such as Progress JJ’s Marcus Phelan and Scramble athlete Tommi Pulkkanen.
FME Pick – Jonnatas Gracie
Middleweight has some extreme star power with Atos Prospect Ronaldo Junior making his IBJJF Gi Grand slam debut but in his way is world medalist and recent AJP Abu Dhabi champion Tommy Langaker and Kingz Athlete Max Lindblad. Its hard to look past Ronaldo Junior and Tommy Langaker however dark horses include World Pro Silver medalist Oliver Lovell and Pedro Ramalho.
FME Pick – Tommy Langaker.
A surprise entry at middle heavy is Kingz Athlete Espen Mathiesen, a world medalist and World Pro champion at Lightweight. Rudson Mateus makes his return as defending champion but faces tough opposition in checkmats Gabriel Almeida. There is also a large European contingent at this division with Progress JJ's Sean Coates, Gracie Barra's Jakub Zajkowski and Bruno Lima ! We see Rudson Mateus defending his crown, but it wont be easy and dont be surprised to see someone else on the top step !
Middle Heavyweight – Rudson Mateus
One of the most anticipated divisions, with established names such as Keenan Cornelius, Jackson Sousa and Adam Wardzinski. They will come up against multiple newly promoted black belts in Alliances Fabio Alano, Pedro Elias and 2019 AJP World Pro Brown belt champion Guilherme Themudo Jardim. We see Keenans tricky guard play and pressure passing being too much for his opponents and taking yet another European Gold Medal.
FME Pick - Keenan Cornelius.
At Super Heavyweight we see Kingz Athlete Felipe Andrew coming up against Patrick Gaudio in the finals. There are other athletes who could cause an upset such as Helton Junior and Gerard Labinski however we cant see past either Felipe Andrew and Patrick Gaudio.
FME Pick – Felipe Andrew
A smaller division, there are multiple explosive athletes to look out for in NS brotherhoods Igor Schneider, Gabriel Lucas and Matheus Felipe da silva Xavier. However our pick will be 2018 IBJJF world champion Mahamed Aly to add the 2020 European championship to his heavy medal cabinet.
FME Pick – Mahamed Aly
